LAIR for PlayStation 3

Posted by who am I On January - 14 - 2009

Hello and welcome to another PlayStation 3 exclusive sneak peek. This time I take a look at a very underrated PS3 title called LAIR.

This time I’m focusing on LAIR. A game in which you take control of a dragon to fight it out in the skies against those who threaten your land. Everyone was at peace once until a great volcano eruption split the community in half. One half went north and the other went south and are now bitter enemies that believe in their own god, and their own rules. Now you fight for what you believe is right, until the truth is revealed that the ones you are fighting for are really the ones who want the war to continue, not to end. To say the least the story is a great one indeed. Also the graphics are truly magnificent to behold. When playing this game you might forget that its a game, everything just looks so detailed and just flat out beautiful looking. The music is also done VERY well with many orchestrated tracks to accompany the game.

Then we get to the controls of the game and let me tell you. When the game first came out it received MANY bad reviews due to the controls in the game being borderline horrific! I was one of them that HATED this game! They FORCED you to use the sixaxis controls to move the dragon around, and to do EVERYTHING else as well including the dash forward and 180 etc.. was all sixaxis movements and it made the game HARD AS HELL! It was not even worth my time as the stages are LONG and can take quite some time to beat.

That was then though and 3 months later a patch came out that COMPLETELY fixed this broken game! I was able to pick up the controller and use the analogue sticks to move the dragon around now and use the D Pad to do dashes and 180s. The game is now actually FUN! And I must say the patch really made this game for me. The patch not only adds the analogue controls (which should have been there from the start), it also adds a better lock on system for the dragons so you can target enemies MUCH easier and more accurately. I was able to go from being completely stuck on stage 4 with NO CHANCE of ever beating it (just like ALL the reviewers) before the patch, to being able to beat all FIFTEEN stages within a week of hardcore playing after the patch. What a world of difference that patch makes.

But, that’s not all the patch does. They went all out on this patch also including rumble support for the Dual Shock 3 controllers which the game did not have before since the DS3 was not out yet. Also they added 2 New dragons to use during the game. The Wind Dragon, and the Poison Dragon! The Wind Dragon is MUCH faster than the 2 dragons you start out with originally, but its attacks are kinda weak. The poison Dragon is slower but its attacks are devastating! Either way you now have a total of 4 dragons to choose from and they all fly and attack a bit differently so that’s nice to have. And last but not least, the patch adds new music tracks to the game!

Like I said, the patch turned a not so great game into a fantastic experience! Heck LAIR is even PSP compatible through REMOTE PLAY!! Thats right, play LAIR on your PSP! Very few games even support this.

If you have not yet tried out LAIR in all its splendor, I suggest you go out now and buy it, or at the very least go rent it. Its well worth the price of admission and overall the game is simply fantastic! So get out there, mount up on your dragon, and RIDE!

This game is in 1080p native, has Dual Shock 3 rumble support, and DTS sound quality (it also includes 7.1 uncompressed PCM like most PS3 exclusives).

NOTE: This is the true HQ 16×9 Widescreen version video. Be sure to check for more in the future to replace my old 4:3 versions! I hope you appreciate the time it took for me to redo this video! 🙂

PlayStation European TV Commercial: ‘Double Life’

Posted by who am I On January - 14 - 2009

‘Double Life’ is one of the greatest TV commercials sony ever did here in europe for the original PlayStation.

Here’s a transscript:
For years, I’ve lived a double life.
In the day, I do my job
I ride the bus, roll up my sleeves with the hoi polloi.
But at night, I live a life of exhilaration,
of missed heartbeats and adrenalin.
And, if the truth be known, a life of dubious virtue.
I won’??t deny it I’ve been engaged in violence, even indulged in it.
I’ve maimed and killed adversaries?? and not merely in self-defence.
I’ve exhibited disregard for life, limb and property,
and savoured every moment.
You may not think it, to look at me,
but I have commanded armies and conquered worlds.
And though in achieving these things I’ve set morality aside,
I have no regrets.
For though I’ve led a double life, at least I can say:
I’ve lived.
