Marissa Mayer: Don’t Kill Projects; Morph Them

Posted by who am I On January - 6 - 2009

May 17, 2006 presentation by Marissa Mayer for the Stanford Technology Ventures Program Educators Corner in the School of Engineering at Stanford University.

Google’s Vice President of Search Products & User Experience, Marissa Mayer, spoke to Stanford University in May, 2006. She lives by the old adage that if at first you don’t succeed, try again, and Mayer pushes aspiring business thinkers to breathe new life into failed ventures, as opposed to just cutting the cord. Repackage, rejuvenate, re-market, and re-examine those products or practices you thought would fly, and craft them a new set of wings.

PHILIPS – Talking to Emilie Aarts

Posted by who am I On January - 6 - 2009

Technology is not the driver for innovation! But what is it then?

Philips has recently restructured their activities around 3 main activities: health care, consumer lifestyle and lighting. With Emile Aarts, scientific program director at Philips research laboratories, we spoke about the fundamental changes the global electronic concern has gone through in the last decade. He also explains why the added value for users does not come from technology but from design and why it’s so hard for companies like Philips to measure the return on investment for innovation.

Carol Bartz: Pyramids, Not Ladders

Posted by who am I On January - 6 - 2009

March 1, 2006 presentation by Carol Bartz for the Stanford Technology Ventures Program Entrepreneurship Corner in the School of Engineering at Stanford University.

Carol Bartz, CEO of Autodesk for many years, points out that young workers needn’t be afraid of a lateral career move. Ambition often focuses only on upward motion, whereas well-rounded experience in a number of departments – sales, marketing, or customer service, just to name a few – gives a career a solid foundation. Ladders are unstable, Bartz says, but pyramids have depth, safety, and strength.
