He expects that some of these more exotic forms could bring the price of energy down several-fold, while also being clean and renewable. He recommends the open source method for quickly disseminating the technology once it is mature enough.

Opportunity for Women in Renewable Energy Technology Use in Bangladesh. This was initiated in 1999 with $175,000 from ESMAP as a project in Char Montaz, a coastal island in Bangladesh, with technical assistance from Prokaushali Sangsad Ltd (PSL). South Asia Partnership, Bangladesh, an NGO provided initial support in social mobilization and micro-credit. The project provided skill and renewable energy technology training to 32 poor women in Char Montaz and assited them in establishing the Coastal Women’s Electrification and Development Microenterprise, which now has become a SME with 117 employees.
Diversification: Initially, it was assembling of DC lamps and providing services through battery charging station. Now the SME has moved to assembling CFL and LED lamps, controllers and inverters of solar home system (SHS) and mobile phone chargers. It has provided SHS to almost 30,000 households, small enterprises and markets in coastal areas, where grid electrification is not a feasible option.
The lessons from this project was taken into a larger project: Bangladesh Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Development ($200m). In this project, nearly 200,000 SHS are provided to poor households in remote areas. Grameen Shaki, Srijani, TMSS and other NGOs learnt from this project and made micro-finance available to the poor households for SHS.

Lynne McTaggart, an investigative journalist, and editor of the newsletter “What Doctors Don’t Tell You,” began work on “The Field” four years ago as a personal quest. Her research took her to many areas around the globe, meeting with top frontier scientists in Russia, Germany, France, England, South American, Central America and the USA. During these meetings, she saw what these scientists were working on and it seemed to overthrow the current laws of biology, chemistry and physics. Their theories and experiments also compounded into a new science, a new view of the world. For several years she immersed herself in quantum physics and pored through hundreds of scientific papers to decoding what was often impenetrable work. In many cases she had to pester the scientists to explain aspects of physics in order to check facts and interpretations. Lynne concludes that her work paints a picture of an interconnected universe and a new scientific theory which makes sense of ‘supernatural ‘phenomena. McTaggart discussed her new work on the science of intention, and how it relates to healing and consciousness. Living beings are receivers and transmitters of information, and thoughts have a physical reality to them, like currents of light, she stated. While there have been some methodological problems in a number of studies that tried to measure the effectiveness of prayer, other experiments have shown that mental intention or healing is effective 50-80% of the time, she reported. Healers “power up” by getting into a meditative state, noted McTaggart– but interestingly, a brain study of monks showed they produced gamma waves (the fastest type of brain wave) while in a state of “utter peak attention.” Certain places or times can enhance mental intention, and it also helps to make the intention as specific as possible, she shared. McTaggart plans a series of global experiments through a new website, theintentionexperiment.com. One will involve trying to change variables such as temperature in a terrarium that will be seen on a live webcam. Ultimately, she said, the goal is to learn how to use intention for positive purposes, such as lowering the crime rate in a community.
