Marissa Mayer: Don’t Kill Projects; Morph Them

Posted by who am I On January - 6 - 2009

May 17, 2006 presentation by Marissa Mayer for the Stanford Technology Ventures Program Educators Corner in the School of Engineering at Stanford University.

Google’s Vice President of Search Products & User Experience, Marissa Mayer, spoke to Stanford University in May, 2006. She lives by the old adage that if at first you don’t succeed, try again, and Mayer pushes aspiring business thinkers to breathe new life into failed ventures, as opposed to just cutting the cord. Repackage, rejuvenate, re-market, and re-examine those products or practices you thought would fly, and craft them a new set of wings.

to our environment, and digital alternatives to physical activities.
This talk will be taped.

ABSTRACT

The OpenMRS project is a noteworthy open source community that allows developers to directly contribute towards technology that saves lives. This community began its work in 2004 in response to HIV’s devastation upon the developing world. As home to ninety-five percent of this pandemic’s disease burden, these resource-poor locations need new health care systems that efficiently manage medical information. A quick survey of the health information technology landscape in this environment yields poor organization, many inflexible ad hoc developments, and poor potential for proper scale.

OpenMRS was designed to serve as an electronic medical record system…
