Renesas Technology has commercialized two new products in the SH-Mobile Series of mobile phone application processors, which can support digital terrestrial broadcasting.
The high-end SH-MobileL3V2 offers image quality improvement functions to enable adjusting image quality for individual TV scenes. It also comes embedded with a 24-bit dedicated audio digital signal processor which contributes to lowering power consumption.
Mounted on a small 8mm x 8mm package, the SH-MobileUL offers high cost performance. With its footprint about 30% smaller than its predecessor’s, the new chip is best suited for use in popular mobile phone models with terrestrial digital broadcast capability.
Both new chips use a CPU core which runs at 266MHz and achieves a processing performance of 478 MIPS (million instructions per second). They also feature a low-power video processing unit for multi-codec video processing, capable of encoding and decoding at 30 frames per second at VGA definition.
They are priced at 2,800 yen (about US$24) and 1,500 yen (US$12.80), respectively, in lots of 10,000 units.
Renesas Technology began shipping both SH-Mobile Series products in sample quantities in October.
